Happy Mardi Gras!
Welcome to February. It’s been a
whirlwind of a month already, and it’s not even over yet. This month has
honestly been such a blast. I got to volunteer at a medical tent for the rock n
roll half/ full marathon, judge a junior division science fair, and not to
mention Mardi Gras is right around the corner! On top of all that fun, I’ve
been prepping for the upcoming SHELF exam and the MCAT. Dr. Clarkson has been
really helpful with how to study for the SHELF, so I’m not as stressed out as I
thought I would be this month. It’s hard to be super nervous/ stressed when
everyone around you is so encouraging! It’s so nice to have professors that genuinely
care about your success.
Well back to volunteering, the
race was such a fun way to get involved in the community! In the med tent, we
were able to help triage, assist in treatment ideas for patients, and put all
of our knowledge we have acquired into practice. Waking up at 5am was rough,
but totally worth it! It was also nice to meet a lot of med student/ other
medical professionals in the area.
Judging a science fair sounds like
so much fun that I practically jumped on the opportunity. Let me tell you it was
way harder than I thought it was going to be. All of these cute little kids were
so excited about science and so proud of their presentations. It was honestly
SO hard to pick the winners. It was really cool to see all of these kids so
passionate about something, and it’s nice to think that maybe some words of
encouragement could aid them on their future endeavors/ make an impact in their
life. It’s fun to think about all the
people who have inspired you along the way, and to think that maybe you could
be that person for someone else.
