New Adventures
Hi ya’ll,
It has almost been two months since I moved to the Big Easy
from my sleepy little beach town. The sound of ambulances flying past no longer make me flinch
and being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of city life is really starting
to grow on me! In this first month, I have eaten some delicious food, met some
pretty awesome people, studied lot (of course), and have been immersing myself
in the local culture. I'm super excited to be apart of the Pharmacology Masters Program at Tulane this year. Every professor and staff member has made me feel super welcome since coming here, and I feel like they actually care about my success! Coming from a large University, the close knit group is something I'm not used to, but something I REALLY love about the program.
Learning how to balance was a super important goal I set for
myself this year. I wanted to make sure that I was staying on top of school,
but also enjoying the beautiful place I get to call home (at least for the next
year). It has been a while since I graduated, so I was nervous about getting
back into a rigorous academic environment. I learned early on that finding a
good study routine is SO important. I can’t stress that enough. Even though we
have only had two block exams so far, I feel like I’m finally learning how to
study efficiently/ effectively for the first time ever, and I’m so happy with
my exam scores from the first two modules! I tried group studying for the first
time, and I was shocked by how much I have really enjoyed it. It has been a fun
game trying to figure out what does and doesn’t work for me, but it is a PROCESS.
I have to remind myself of that quite often.
Time has gone by so fast, with all of the adjusting and getting
back into the swing of school, I didn’t get an opportunity to volunteer this
month. I’m excited to start volunteering at the beginning of next month with
the Goldring Center for Culinary medicine! I can’t wait to see what opportunities
the month of October brings!
